Our quality control process ensures your walls reflect not just beauty, but trust

Big Size Slabs

Big Size Slabs — also known as large-formattiles or slabs — represent a premium product category specifically designed for applications such asseamless wall cladding, kitchen countertops, bathroom panels, and expansive flooring areas. Theseslabs, available in impressive dimensions such as 120x240 cm, 80x240 cm, 120x120 cm, and beyond, arefavored for their ability to elevate architectural aesthetics while minimizing grout lines, resulting in a refined, luxurious appearance.

However, the unique characteristics of Big Size Slabs also make them susceptible to specific quality issues. Due to their substantial surface area and slim profile, these slabs are prone to challenges such as warpage, edge chipping, printing distortion, and breakage during handling and installation. At Asian Quality Services (AQS), we conduct meticulous, precision-driven inspections to ensure that each slab meets rigorous international standards.

AQS Testing Parameters
AQS Inspection Process
for Big Size Slabs

Precision matters when dealing with large-format slabs. At AQS, we deploy targeted inspection protocols to detect warpage, ensure dimensional accuracy, and verify structural integrity, safeguarding your premium slabs from production to installation.

Factory Visit & Production Readiness Verification

Our inspector begins by visiting the plant to:

  • Confirm total quantity produced vs. order
  • Ensure the slabs are stored in safe vertical racks or wooden A-frames
  • Identify each design, batch, and size group for proper traceability

01

Warehouse Stock Handling & Stacking Safety Check

We assess:

  • Proper handling of slabs with lifting systems or clamps
  • Safety of packaging racks, crates, and wooden bundling
  • Risk of slab damage from pressure points or unsafe stacking

02

Random Slab Sampling
Per AQL Standards

Slabs are sampled from various racks, batches, and positions (front, middle, rear). Selection is based on AQL standards, modified to suit oversized materials.

03

Box/Crate Label &
Artwork Check

We verify external labels and crate markings:

  • Design code, size (e.g., 120x240 cm), thickness
  • Shade/batch number
  • Branding and packaging format (if client-provided or
    private labeled)

04

Protective
Packaging Check

We examine the packaging of individual slabs:

  • Use of foam or corrugated sheets between slabs
  • Corner guards
  • Wooden crate integrity
  • Proper gap between tiles to prevent direct contact

Well-packed slabs significantly reduce breakage during export and unloading.

05

Slab Laying &
Visual Inspection

Due to the large size, slabs are laid on a padded, flat surface or leaned safely for visual inspection. We assess:

  • Surface defects: glaze waves, cloudy polish, scratches, edge chipping
  • Printing clarity: image resolution, book-match continuity, grain alignment
  • Shade consistency: gloss/matte surface match across batches
  • Joint alignment: tiles placed side-by-side must align perfectly
  • Edge finish: rectified, polished, or chamfered precision

Visual flaws are more visible in big slabs, so we inspect under direct lighting and varying angles.

06

Master Sample
Comparison

If a reference master slab is provided, we compare:

  • Exact match in design, texture, and color
  • Surface polish level (gloss/matte/satin)
  • Book-match layout (if applicable)

This ensures the slabs align with client expectations for project installation.

07

Technical Testing &
ISO-Based Evaluations

Using multiple-point measurements, we check:

  • Dimensional Accuracy (ISO 10545-2)
  • Flatness & Warpage Check (ISO 10545-2)
  • Water Absorption (ISO 10545-3)
  • Breaking Strength / Bending Resistance (ISO 10545-4)
  • Surface Gloss or L Value Test (if PGVT finish)
  • Scratch Resistance (Mohs Scale)

08

Edge Profile, Backside Texture &
Mounting Suitability

In big slabs, we also evaluate:

  • Edge straightness (important for joint matching)
  • Back surface texture for proper adhesive grip
  • Suitability for wall cladding systems, elevation mounting, or cut-to-size countertop applications

09

Final Inspection Report &
Client Approval

The final report includes:

  • High-resolution slab photos (front, edge, close-up of defects)
  • Dimensional and technical test results
  • Packaging condition assessment
  • Final remarks and recommendation (Pass / Conditional / Recheck)

Submitted to the client within 24 hours after inspection.

AQS Ensures Perfection from Edge to Edge

Big size slabs are integral to premium architectural projects, where even minor defects in shade, edge alignment, or flatness can disrupt entire installations, leading to costly rework and time delays. Given their large dimensions and slim profiles, these slabs are more susceptible to warpage, edge chipping, and surface inconsistencies, making expert inspection essential.

At AQS, we employ specialized inspection protocols to ensure that every slab is dimensionally accurate, visually flawless, and structurally sound. Our meticulous checks verify book-match pattern alignment, surface finish consistency, and handling safety, ensuring that each slab is ready for export without compromising on quality. With AQS, you ship big slabs with absolute confidence in their precision and performance.
